From sumptuous cuisine to fringe theatre, historical trails and cultural activities, Boston offers a host of activities to discerning
Learn about Boston’s role in the American War of Independence by walking the Freedom Trail. Stop at sites like Boston Common, the Old Corner Bookstore and Park Street Church. If you’re a fan of military history, visit the Boston Harbor Islands to explore a preserved Civil War Fort. See reminders of Boston’s Irish heritage at the Irish Famine Memorial, John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum and Hibernian Hall. Or visit one of the city’s many hidden gems, for example, the Boston Athenaeum, one of the country’s oldest independent libraries housing over half a million books, some dating back to the 1800s. The library building inside and out is striking, reflecting its classic mid-19th century architecture and is well worth visiting.
See the Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots or Celtics compete for victory at home. Don’t forget the Boston Marathon - the biggest annual marathon in the world. It always takes place on the third Monday of April, so you can plan your visit well in advance.
Boston is a very walkable city, but the Massachusetts Bay Transport Authority offers bus and rail services. You can even hop aboard a water taxi or ferry to get across the city. Parking can be difficult to find and can be expensive so it’s a good idea to plan ahead. If you do fancy walking you can take a stroll along the Charles River Esplanade or head across the river to Cambridge. From here you’ll find stunning views of Boston’s city skyline.
