Things to do and places to see in Zurich

From the historic old town to the young and vibrant Zürich-West, from the inviting blue waters of Lake Zurich to snow-capped mountains - there are plenty of amazing things to do in Zurich.

  • Grossmünster
The Grossmünster church is a landmark of Zurich. Legend has it that the church was built on the graves of the city’s patron saints, Felix and Regula.
  • Shopping at the Bahnhofstrasse
The world-renowned shopping boulevard was created after construction of Zurich’s Main Railway Station. At the spot where city moats were 150 years ago, today it connects Lake Zurich with the Main Railway Station on a length of 1.4 kilometres (0.87 miles).
  • Lake Zurich
Locals say those who haven’t seen Lake Zurich weren’t in Zurich. What was once a transport route today is a popular excursion point for swimming, boating or having a picnic on the lake's banks. When standing next to the famous Ganymede statue on the Bürkliterrasse, you can see as far as the Swiss Alps.

How to get from the airport to the city centre?

Zurich Airport is just 6 miles/10km from the city centre, and visitors can take a trip by taxi, train or tram.

Taxi: Taxi ranks are located in front of Arrivals 1 and 2. In most taxis, you pay a basic fare of CHF 6 (around 6.50 Euro) and an additional CHF 3.80 (around 4 Euro) per km. The taxi ride from the airport to the centre of Zurich costs CHF 50–70 (55 to 75 Euro). You may be required to pay a surcharge if you have a lot of luggage.

Tram: If you would like to see something of the city on the journey from Zurich Airport to Zurich City, the best way to do so is by taking a tram. The ride on Line 10 from the airport to the Main Station takes approximately 35 minutes and costs around 7 Euro.

Trains Trains run daily from Zurich Airport to Zurich Main Station, every 5–10 minutes between 5 am and midnight. In addition, the S-Bahn lines S2 and S16, as well as various regional trains, transport guests swiftly and safely to Zurich Main Station – and thus also the city center – in just 10 minutes. Single ticket costs around 7 Euro.
